The new iAMOLED photo tank by iRiver

The latest trend in mobile devices is the enhanced ability to take pictures and a lot of them. Over the past few quarters there has been a great increase in the quality of cameras on cellular devices because of the decreasing trend to buy digital cameras apart from mobile phones. From the age of the over glorified VGA to the new era of mega pixels, the advances have been tremendous. Not only has the quality of cameras increased, their price has decreased alongside, making it ever so affordable to buy a decent camera phone up to current standards.

Seeing the increased competition for these devices, iRiver has come up with its remarkable new device which will literally shut everyone up and make them gawk in awe. Thats exactly what happened in the CES of 2008 when iRiver displayed for the first time, its new mobile camera studio: The iAMOLED. This new device has a 4.1 inch matrix OLED LCD screen that is also used as a display. The camera stores a whopping 80 GB of memory with an option of and extended160 GB also.

The mock up at the CES was not functional however and we will have to wait till the device hits the market to actually experience the ostentatiousness of this device

Free text messages anywhere in the world with Cellity Mobile app

Text messaging is the new fad when it comes to the mobile communication world. This is because of its sheer simplicity to send a communicated thought in a simple and easy to understand format that can be saved and viewed as many times as one likes. The fact is, it had become the leading for of mobile communication in younger age groups as well as business realms where making phone calls all the time is inconvenient and time consuming, not to mention expensive. But the problem is, that mobile companies, particularly in the US, have seen this as an opportunity to raise profits by exploiting the consumer market.

They have subsequently been raising their tariffs for SMS to a level that is anything but ignorable. Seeing this as a major opportunity to expand, Cellity mobile solutions provider has incorporated a new method that basically allows mobile phone users form any network anywhere in the world to send and receive text messages free of cost. The service is a simple application that users can download on their cellular device form their site (Free) and using a GPRS connection, they can log into their server and start messaging, absolutely free. Users will only pay for the bytes sent, which is minimal. Another great improvement for the mobile community.

Mobile Apps vs. Mobile Ads: Which is better marketing?

The increased usage of GPRS and WAP in mobile phones is very noticeable. 40% of every mobile phone user throughout the world uses the mobile internet at a frequent rate nowadays and this has sparked the interest of major brands throughout the world. Companies such as Motorola, Wal-Mart and many more, have all started using this new ad media for their own commercial gain.

But the problem is that many of these new ad campaigns have limited or o influence on consumers. Why is that? Lets take an example out of real life. Say you are using the GPRS to check your mail from your usual electronic mail client (hotmail, yahoo, AOL, etc). The moment you log in you get a pop up for some new product that claims its the best in the world at whatever it does. Do you really care? Obviously not. You just want to check your mail. This has created a new trend for companies to provide mobile applications in order to promote their product instead of annoying ads that dont really so much to enlighten potential consumers.

For instance, Wal-Mart has introduced a mobile internet portal that allows users to download the latest ring tones, wallpapers and what not, to their phone and stay in touch with the latest changes in Wal-Mart stores at the same time. The service provided is giving Wal-Mart a good name amongst the people that use its services, and whether people view the news about their stores or not, they will definitely remember the brand that provided them the service they like so much: Job done!

MMA releases latest mobile marketing study 2008

The great mobile marketing world advocate, the Mobile Marketing Association (MMA) has released its latest survey for mobile SMS and MMS usage in January 2008. The survey is no doubt one which shows a positive outcome otherwise the MMA would never have released it tin the first place. The purpose of the survey is to account and analyze the changing trends in mobile marketing and mobile phone usage in the last year and to further promote investment in the mobile marketing scenario throughout the world.

The latest finds that the MMA concluded was based on a sample of 1,405 consumers that use the GPRS and SMS services provided by their mobile network client on a regular basis. The results were seen as a definite growth of the market and a good one at that. 1 and every 4 of those consumers were interested in mobile marketing campaigns and 1 of every 20 even went ahead and participated in them. Further, 58% of the sample use their mobile phone cameras compared to a 35% that was seen last year.

The most common use of mobile campaigns included sweepstakes and voting campaigns and the major target for these campaigns was a wide array of different ethnic groups. The trend for SMS is seen more towards the 13-34 age group 44 percent of which say they use text messaging for social networking, dating and even breaking up from relationships (10 percent). Interesting figures, say the MMA.
